Quincy City Hall winter holiday season decorations finally go Ecumenical!
After an extended run of a missing old menorah during the December holidays season, it would appear that a new menorah has been provided so as to balance things to some degree as regards displays of seasonal religious displays on public property around Quincy’s two City Halls.
Plus, given that Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch has made such a big deal about it, it would be only reasonable to wonder if the mayor was pressed to do so.
After all, why else would he run a full-page ad in the local weekly given that the most prominent December holiday display on Kim Jong Koch Plaza is a life-size creche?
And next up, will we also soon be seeing displays that celebrate Festivus for the Rest of Us and Kwanza.
After all, Quincy is on the edge of a minority-majority community as well as has long enjoyed a diverse range of personal and religious beliefs.
The mayor remembered this year, but I still remember last year! Thank you for another excellent article.
When did the menorah go up? Hanukkah was over on Dec.6. — I don’t recall a lighting ceremony.
And the placement — right next to the fire alarm box — is a thoughtful touch.
Such a clear commitment to respect for people other than the Santa Claus crowd.
Fredzo,
Our peerless mayor hosted a menorah lighting ceremony on December 2.

So what, apparently, for the fact that by then the eight nights of Hanukkah were more than half over.
I see. A literally half-baked attempt at inclusion. Was Twitter the only major source of this information?
Fred,
It is only reasonable to assume that this week’s edition of the Quincy print weekly will run something gushing.
Lost count on the number of the City’s Christmas trees. Any idea on the final tally? Inside and outside.
