Bah, humbug. Mayor Thomas Koch said it became time to retire the skydiving tradition once its longtime organizer decided to step back from his duties.
Santa to arrive in Quincy by helicopter as the City of Quincy drops local skydiving Santa tradition.
While local Christmas festivities hosted by the City of Quincy and at least partially subsidized with tax dollars are returning this year after their suspension last year given the COVID-19 pandemic, Santa Claus will not be dropping in the Q via a parachute.
While the official reason is basically premised on how Father Time has taken a toll on Santa, Quincy Quarry suspects that the cost of liability insurance to cover the risks of Santa parachuting onto Pageant Field has become prohibitive.
After all, Santa crashed and burned during his 2016 parachute jump and thus one can only reasonably assume that this incident has boosted the cost of securing insurance coverage.
Either that or the Koch Maladministration has otherwise become aware of how it looks to be facing a massive liability claim in the wake of a recent criminal conviction and is now opting to properly cover its tukas going forward, however clearly too little as well as way too late.

Wasn’t it the case that in addition to the skydiving Santa there were a few ‘elves’ that always jumped with him? Why couldn’t one of them be employed to jump as Santa? The real issue, as the article notes is likely the question of liability. But then, imagine the liability issues if a helicopter crashed while delivering Santa.
Maybe, just to simplify and avoid the liability issue, Santa should just secretly board the fire truck somewhere off-site and be transported sirens and horns blaring to . . . Pageant Field, or almost anywhere in the city where a firetruck will fit.
Oh, and today the walkways in front of the two city halls were being pressure-washed yet AGAIN. Hope no one slips and falls on the wet pavement.
Since when has worrying about liability been a concern for the denizens of City Hall? Hopefully, things will change after local taxpayers end up stuck with covering a fair chunk of a likely eight-figure damages award c/o City Hall’s fubars with the Nickerson Post and then vote the bums out of office!
