Low bridge …

There was a wicked lot of “storrowing” last month.

As locals know, a local sign that fall is nigh is the return of college students to Boston and their so giving rise to a spike of storrowing trucks care of low bridges in the Back Bay and Fens neighborhoods of Boston.

One would think that new college students would know better as well as that their colleges would provide them fair warning, but apparently thinking is not as strong among students at what are viewed to be the more exclusive colleges and universities in the self-proclaimed hub of the universe.

That and apparently how college students’ reliance on WAZE and other such navigation apps which apparently do not provide them with sufficient advance warning of impacted vertical clearance.

Either that or incoming new students are too busy posting status updates on their social media to catch any road sign warnings of low bridges or navigation app warnings.

At the same time, in fairness, not all sorrowing incidents are caused by careless college students as this particular instance of thinning of the larger herd of truck drivers happens.

In any event, storrowing incidents were so frequent during August this year that a local TV station opted to run an omnibus story rather than trying to feature the storrowing of most every day.

After all, Hurricanes Henri and Ida as well as the US evacuation from Afghanistan did suck up a lot of the available media bandwidth and thus something had to give.

How frequent was the storrowing last month?

On August 27, a hat trick was imposed on trucks by low bridges for purportedly but only the second time ever in the history of recorded August strorrowings.

Additionally, the count of 34 incidents of storrowing last month included instances when trucks hit the brakes in time and had to back out of “would-be (actual, ed.) Storrowings.”

One would think that public officials would finally see that at least the old and substandard low bridges in at least the Back Bay and Fens areas of Boston along the Charles River are finally replaced; however, one must remember that we’re talking Massachusetts public officials.
