Quincy’s East Squantum Street on Squantum receiving a repaving.

While out and about looking for breaking news on the mean as well as potholed streets of Quincy early Saturday morning, Quincy Quarry’s Mobile Unit Two happened upon trucks hauling paving equipment to Squantum and thus tailed them.

in turn, Quincy Photo Recon Team Six personnel took images of the equipment as well as some of the suspected run of pavement to be redone on at least East Squantum Street in the Squantum neighborhood.

A new concrete sidewalk – nice!

That and perhaps a side street or three on top of the fair run of Squantum sidewalks already undergoing makeovers.

Particularly curious is how the pavement to be repaved did not appear to be in all that bad shape other than some signs of underground pipe rework.

Further, such work is typically done over one construction season and then the road is resurfaced during the following year so as to allow the backfill from laying new pipe to settle so as to better assure a smoother and longer-lived new road surface.

The City of Quincy legal team in action

Then again, perhaps the Koch Maladministration is endeavoring to deliver some bacon to Squantum to soften the blow of the soon expected final ruling against the City of Quincy’s legal quixotic challenges of the City of Boston’s plans to rebuild the Long Island Bridge on its dime.

Regardless, other streets in Quincy other than those on Squantum or within the Quincy Center redevelopment district would clearly appear to be in worse shape and thus Quincy Quarry will continue to monitor them to see if any receive repavings this construction season.

After all, the Koch Maladministraion has $20 million in local bond-funded funds available this year for local road repair projects as well as also considerable Chapter 90 funds from the state exchequer and looks to be planning to spend it where it sees fit.
