North Carolina Senate race proven to be an effective barometer for Senate races?

As posed by Quincy Quarry’s political and other affairs desk yesterday, watching the senate race in North Carolina was looking to be a good indicator for which party would end of with control of the Senate come the New Year looks to have been good advice.

While not all ballots are counted, the Republican incumbent United States Senator in North Carolina is now leading narrowly in the vote count after trailing by a greater percentage in the polls leading up to the closing of walk-in polling places and postmark deadlines for mail in ballots.

While control of the Senate is still up in the air, Republicans running for Senate seat this year are for the most part outperforming pre-ellection polls and currently enough are leading in their respective races for Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to perhaps continue to be in charge of the Senate come the New Year.

In fact, Senator McConnell, long viewed as the most hated politician in Congress  and even more so than TEd Cruz, (Republican, Texas) thumped his opponent by 20% in spite the fact she outspent him by an estimated/projected $35 million to around $25 million.

Then again, as 97% of the challenger’s campaign war chest was funded by out of state interests, such could variously explain her lack of voter support on election day.

In any event, and as the late and great Yogi Berra was wont to say, “it ain’t over until it’s over” – even if many among us wishes it was over.

Accordingly Quincy Quarry News will continue to monitor elections news and voting results until the bloody end.
