Governor Charlie Baker has had enough of people holding large private gatherings and otherwise disregarding COVID-19 mitigation strategies. He thus indefinitely paused the state’s economic reopening, lowered the outdoor gathering limit and empowered the police to enforce COVID-19 related orders. A Nic Czarneski/Boston Herald pool photo.

Governor Charlie Baker imposes tighter restrictions in response to the recent uptick in COVID-19 cases in Massachusetts.
Governor Baker’s actions were undertaken in the wake of active COVID-19 cases in Massachusetts rising by nearly 25 percent between July 29 and August 5 as well as having increased over the past month such that new COVID-19 infections are once again outpacing recoveries.
For the most part, Governor Baker’s actions entail limiting group gatherings and authorizing the sanctioning of those who are not complying with reasonable best practices expectations to blunt the spread of COVID-19.
At the same time, Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch has concurrently expressed arguably but modest concerns in the wake of local COVID cases doubling over roughly the same time frame and in spite of the fact that he concurrently approved large public gathering graduation ceremonies for local 2020 high school graduates, only to then have to later advise certain attendees of their possible exposure to COVID-19.
Quincy Quarry yet again considered reaching out to Mayor Koch for comment, but then yet again figured why waste time ending up ignored.
