Captain Tom is now Sir Captain Thomas Moore to honor his record setting fundraising efforts to help out in the battle against the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.

Former British Royal Air Force Captain Tom Moore decided to make good use of his time while quarantined during the COVID-19 by posting a social media pledge campaign challenge to raise money for the United Kingdom’s National Health Service if the then ninety-nine year old World War II veteran wre to complete a hundred laps of his backyard before his hundredth birthday.

He was hoping to raise a thousand pounds (roughly equivalent to US$1,250).

Instead, things went viral and Captain Tom raised £32,794,701 (over US$41 million) in donations from over a million and a half contributors.

Needless to say, Captain Tom has received all manner of honors, including a flyover over his home by World War vintage British Spitfire fighter planes and now his knighting by Queen Elizabeth II.

The Queen has postponed all other knightings given the COVID-19 pandemic.

Then again, both the Queen and now Sir Captain Thomas Moore aren’t getting any younger.

Even so, in time honored British carrying on fashion, the latest British knight still views himself as simply Captain Tom.
