Washington DC’s NFL team is retiring its team name with a new name to be named later.

No word, however, when team owner Dan Snyder will either finally field a competitive team for the once successful NFL team or sell the franchise to someone who will.

After years of controversy, the recent upswell of social consciousness over the domestic history of ill-treatment of people of color and most especially given the loss and threatened loss of team sponsorships, Snyder has finally been shamed into changing the team’s pejorative team name.

To what, however, is said to yet be determined in a move more associated with Major League Baseball.

And for a less-known fact, the Washington NFL team’s now former team name ties into a manner of co-branding deal with the long lily white Boston Red Sox in 1933.

The now Washington NFL team was then located in Boston and had changed its team name when it opted to playing its games at Fenway Park after having previously played its games in the now-long gone Boston Braves baseball team’s ballpark.

Quincy Quarry considered reaching out to Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch, a North Quincy High School graduate, for comment but then figured why bother as he will surely continue to support the hopelessly denigrating as well as flat out stupid school mascot name and logo of his only graduated from alma mater.

That and how Mayor Koch is all but assuredly planning to lay low while both the School Committee and City Council are on summer vacation in the hope that things will blow over by time they resume public meetings in the fall.
