Today is National Doughnut Day – where to go for deals!
After months of sheltering in place, today is the day you can enjoy a sugary fried treat without any guilt!
The Salvation Army celebrated the first National Donut Day in 1938 in Chicago as a fundraiser for those in need during the Great Depression and to honor the Salvation Army women volunteers who served dough to hungry soldiers during World War.
Locally, while Quincy is the birthplace of Dunkin’ Donuts, the Quincy Quarry News team unanimously views West Quincy’s Donut King as the local King of Doughnut makers even if it won’t make a variation of its raspberry-filled doughnut with a chocolate smear topping a la a Boston Creme in addition to its powdered sugar version.
Then again considering that Donut King is usually all but sold out by around lunch time or thereabouts most days, the Quarry can appreciate why bother.
In any event, many doughnut vendors are offering National Donut Day deals so why not check them out!
