Quincy’s plastic bag ban to start Sunday.
The City of Quincy’s plastic bag ban takes effect on the first of March, along with the start of a 90-day transition period to allow retailers and customers to get used to the new law.
For example, while March 1 marks the first day of the ban, stores will have until the first of June 1 to deplete their current stocks of the shopping bags. Then, after the 90-day grace period, fines will be imposed.
Additionally, under the Quincy ordinance, stores can charge customers for recyclable paper bags and for re-usable bags.
And as for Quincy Quarry’ thoughts, while its personnel have long done what they can to use reusable bags and find good reuses of regular plastic store bags, it would have preferred that the City of Quincy endeavored to encourage similar behavior by others rather than going with the arguable political grandstanding of a complete ban which will likely often penalize both the forgetful shopper as well as those with a big shopping list.

I live in Dorchester but went to Quincy to shop just for the bags. Now where do I go?
I’m all for eliminating plastic bags blowing in the wind like ghetto tumbleweeds, so I re-use them. Wish others were more careful with disposal of their bags.
I used the bags for trash at home, now I have to go buy bags for trash. In the long run this will make more plastic, not less.
This sucks, big nanny government. Leave us alone.
