Boston condo development plan raises conflict of interest claims nonprofit.

The Conservation Law Foundation is demanding answers from both the Massachusetts Port Authority and a Boston-based real estate development firm, citing a possible conflict of interest if the company is allowed to build condos, offices and shops at a decommissioned power plant in South Boston.

The Conservation Law Foundation sent a letter to Massport on Monday questioning Redgate Real Estate’s involvement and the prospect that Massport might waive its own restriction on residential development next to a major truck route.

The foundation further asserts MassPort had acted previously to “insulate maritime and industrial operations, and the associated heavy truck traffic, from encroaching residential development” and thus “found it odd and inexplicable that the proposed … redevelopment of the Edison Electric parcel has proceeded on the implicit assumption that Massport would lift the prohibition on residential use of the parcel.”

This is not the first time this developer has been hit over appearances of conflict of interest.

City planning in action …

The developer was previously hit with similar heat over its involvement with a large apartment building project built within the Quincy Center redevelopment district while it was acting as an advisor to the City of Quincy as well as was directly involved with a controversial and even larger apartment building project in Marina Bay.
