Marijuana retail sales to the public begin today in Massachusetts.
Marijuana retail sales are set to begin today in Massachusetts at the first two approved locations, Cultivate Holdings in Leicester and New England Treatment Access in Northampton.
Approval by the Cannabis Control Commission for the opening of retail pot shops for sales of marijuana to the general public sales was announced on Friday via an email press release distributed at 4:20 PM, a time famous among pot smokers.
Cannabis Control Commission Chairman Steven J. Hoffman, however, said the timing of the commission’s announcement was not intentional.
“That’s purely the way it worked and there was no target in terms of day of the week or time of the day,” Hoffman said.
While Quincy Quarry has grave doubts that the time of the announcement retail pot sales would soon commence in Massachusetts was but a coincidence, there is no doubt in the Quarry newsroom that the Cannabis Control Commission’s announcement was purposely set for as late as possible on Friday and so be made at the beginning of the usually quiet weekend news cycle.
