Mayor Correira, who was first elected at age 23, was arrested and charged on Thursday with using investments in a company he formed as his ‘‘own personal ATM’’ to enjoy casinos and adult entertainment, buy a Mercedes Benz, and pay down his student loan debt.

Why do voters tolerate this? There was a Lawrence Mayor who was far more corrupt and yet local voters tolerated it. The Mayor of Attleboro is prone to some very odd fantasies that he can’t quite distinguish from reality yet the voters indulge his fantasies and vote for him.
