Boston Mayor Marty Walsh commits $50 million more to rebuild Long Island bridge.
Mayor Walsh has designated $50 million in funding within the City of Boston’s capital plan in its annual budget which begins on July 1, according to city records.
This funding is on top of $12 million already set aside in a previous capital budget plan as well as $30 million earmarked from the City of Boston’s parking revenue account.
In turn, the $92 million in total funds now earmarked would appear more than sufficient for Boston to fund on its own dime what all it will likely cost to rebuild the now partially demolished Long Island Bridge.
Needless to say, Squantum residents are sure to yet again be threatening to go to the mattresses as well as that Quincy-based public officials can say what all they surely will; however, the legal fact of the matter is that the City of Boston is all but certain to be able to reestablish vehicular access to its property on Long Island and so be able to reestablish as well as reconstitute its substance abuse rehabilitation programming on the island.
