Muslims and non-Muslims gather in Quincy for Ramadan Iftar dinner.

 

“The community is together, everyone is around the table… I just love it,” said Fatema Mataoui.

 

Hundreds gathered at Quincy’s Islamic Center of New England, including Roman Catholic State Senator John Keenan, a Roman Catholic and who is one of Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch’s brothers-in-law; however, it appears that the mayor inexplicably passed on both a free meal and a photo op twofer.

In any event, sharing a meal is a common practice of people of faith. 

 

Similarly, there is no admonition against Christians celebrating a traditional Jewish Passover Seder or any legitimate reason that those of good faith from other faiths cannot be guests at a Muslim Iftar dinner.

 

After all, these three faiths make up the Abrahamic religions, although serving an Easter ham could present a problem.

 

More importantly, what better way to come to better know your neighbors than to dine together?
