Quincy pedestrian safety still at risk?
Quincy pedestrian safety appears to have returned to its usual low levels in the wake of even more dangerous levels during the record breaking levels of snow pack in the Q this winter.
After not one, but two Quincy public school students were hit by vehicles on two separate days on days when local  schools were reopened after extended Snow Days, Quincy Quarry was tipped off by one of its many loyal as well as only properly concerned readers of a pedestrian crosswalk light lying disabled on the sidewalk along one of the many increasingly mean streets of the Q.

The Quarry, in turn, arrived on the scene just as an ambulance arrived on the scene.
As noted quickly by the Quarry team responding to the scene midday yesterday as well as it photographed, there were no visible signs of a motor vehicle strike of the crosswalk light, no skid marks nor any signs of the usual snow removal equipment damage rife just about everywhere in Quincy.
As such, there are only two logical explanations.
One is that the crosswalk light had been taken down by Department of Public Works workers for maintenance and then they broke for lunch.
The other, the sign just fell over given a lack of proper maintenance.
Given that the crosswalk light’s attachment bolts and washers were found both nearby as well as undamaged, either explanation is so further reinforced.

In any event, when Quincy Quarry duly followed up by revisiting the scene a day later, it – amazingly – found the sign fixed and operating.
Even so, it still must be noted that the head of the light was both taped up as well as suffering from multiple fractures just above its neck.
The Quincy also found morning commuter traffic on the adjacent thoroughfare blowing through the intersection at the usual excessive rates of speed as well as – at best – indifferent to pedestrian safety.
