What to do with a broke Illinois: Dissolve the Land of Lincoln!

 

The State of Illinois is facing financial ruin.  Its credit rating has been dropped to junk status, its annual budget is looking to continue running deficits even as taxes soar, generous union contracts are adding to the financial pain and its total state employee pension fund deficit is running in the $251 billion range.

Needless to say, the City of Quincy might want to pay attention.

 

Chicago Tribune reporter John Kass has a solution: Dissolve the Land of Lincoln. 

 

“Decommission it, tear up the charter, whatever the legal mumbo-jumbo, just end the whole thing.”

 

And as for Quincy, will Braintree take it back?
