Massachusetts State Police provide overtime all the time at undisclosed special units.
The Boston broadsheet continues to exposé curious instances of premium pay paid to Massachusetts State Police troopers.
Despite multiple government investigations of alleged overtime abuse within the Massachusetts State Police, one pricey overtime practice that costs taxpayers millions of dollars every year has been quietly allowed to continue.
In this latest exposé by the broadsheet, troopers were found to be paid overtime pay 24/7/365 whenever they were on placed on call duty at seven so-called Emergency Response Stations scattered in and around Boston so as to be at the ready to respond to emergencies.
So what, apparently for the fact that at least some of Emergency Response Stations are located near regular State Police Barracks and possibly some of the others could be consolidated within relatively nearby barracks.
Similarly unclear is why this duty is not scheduled as regular pay duty and which could save taxpayers millions a year.
Additionally problematic, this overtime pay staffing at these special standalone facilities was originally instituted so as to help deal with potential construction-related problems during the now long ago completed Big Dig.
