Quincy Quarry Weekly Fish Wrap:  The Dog Days of Summer get a cold shower …

Well, actually more like a cold soaking from an unseasonably cold passing cold front.

In turn, so much – it would appear – for Global Warming as at least Metro Boston is looking to be on pace to see fewer than average ninety-degree days this year.

As such, expect a hotter than average fall to bring things back into line.

Speaking of cold, it’s also been cold in the Q as regards hot news this past week.

About it for the past week was little more than some landscaping clean-up along the Hancock Street Misalignment Project in the wake of yet another apparently effective Quincy Quarry exposé.

Green pavement?!?!?
A Quincy Quarry News file photo

That and some newly painted green pavement in Quincy Center and the submissions of signatures by local voters in support of local candidates for office come this fall’s election.

As for the green paint, it would appear that Quincy Quarry was the first local news outlet – if not also the only news medium – to feature coverage on how this paint is supposed to both enhance existing bicycle lanes as well as create new bicycle ways.

Not that many bicyclists are likely to use them as intended.

After all, we are talking the ever-increasingly mean streets of the Q.

Open for “business as usual” …

On the other hand, the candidates and especially their voter signature petitions speak volumes.

In particular, how a lot of people would clearly appear to be fed up with the status quo.

For School Committee, three seats have but one incumbent running and a handful of newbies running.

Two years ago, however, there were only three candidates running for the then also three School Committee seats up for election in that election.

City Council elections are even more telling.

Three at Large seats are at stake and two incumbents are running for reelection along with – again – a handful of challengers

Getting out the vote in Ward 7!

The ward races are also looking to be interesting.

Out of the six ward councillor elections, three incumbents are looking to be running unopposed.

Conversely, one ward council seat is open and looking to have four contenders running for it.

That and how a couple of ward council seat incumbents are both looking to be facing at least a couple of challengers.

An unsuccessful somewhat recent candidate

Obviously, the challenged ward councillor incumbents would appear to not exactly be popular within their wards.

In any event, other than one at Large incumbent who is already out beating the bushes with great vigor with the likely goal of running up his score come November so as to set the stage for his suspected greater ambitions down the road, it is still early in the going.

Way early.

Even so, count on Quincy Quarry to cover these candidates’ bid for office as only Quincy Quarry has the stones to do.
