The people behind the recent petition drive to put a question on the ballot to let local voters consider trimming the pending and more importantly breathtaking 89% raise for the mayor of Quincy;mayor come 2028 opted to get even rather than mad.when their efforts were turned aside by the City of Quincy’s City Clerk.
The pending 89% raise was unilaterally proposed as well as then arguably variously grifted into approval by Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch and would make the mayor of the small city of Quincy that ranks but 341th in population size in the United States one of the top five highest paid mayors in the country.
However, when an outsized number of ballot question petition signers signatures compared to candidate potions were rejected by the City of Quincy’s City Clerk, those behind the petition opted to fight big money with some money by launching an online Go Fund Me style fundraiser a few Thursdays ago so as to fund pursuing a legal challenge of the city clerk rejecting both the will of locals as well as apparently done at odds with applicable law.
How well did the petitioners’ legal fundraiser do?
Surprising well, all things duly considered.
The online-based fund drive reached and then surpassed its $20,000 goal within a week of launching its fund raising drive.
Further impressive was how the petitioners’ fundraiser to cover anticipated legal expenses was readily accomplished with the most minimal of fund-raising expenses.
To provide a sense of just how effective was the petitioners’ fund raising drive, the funds that were so quickly raised as well as at minimal cost are close to half of what was raised by Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch’s recent campaign fund fundraiser held in the upstairs and harbor view dining room at a posh Marina Bay restaurant net of food and beverage expenses as well as less the costs of printing and then mailing out event invitations for an event that surely took weeks to months to plan and then rack in the morditas.
Needless to say, the Koch Machine has surely ratcheted up its alert warning status to at least DEFCON Two as its tools on city council stools are surely also facing considerable understandable rancor from local voters over an impending roughly 45% raise for councillors come the start of 2026 and which comes but a few years after they were similarly comped by the mayor with an also legally problematic 16% raise.
Needless to say, Quincy Quarry News’ ever growing legions of loyal readers can count on the Quarry to continue follow this as well as other kochings up and so report on further developments as might be appropriate.

October 27 is the paper on vacation what’s the latest on the Koch budget scandal
Chris, which recent budget scandal? A little specificity would be much appreciated.
Seriously, QQ staff have been leaf peeping and thus shared knowledge with others for them to put to good use.
