Tit for tat rules in Quincy’s City Hall
An A-Z Quotes image

In the wake of last Saturday’s free admission concert by American Celtic Punk band the Dropkick Murphys came some intriguing information, however much dribs and connected drabs.

The performance was presented as a Quincy 400 birthday event even though technically Quincy did not come into being until 1792.  Then again, anyone who knows anything about Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch knows that he counts funny.

Wasted portapotties for the performance

In any event, a solid elected official — as solid as politicians go anyway — advised that the Dropkicks were paid $50,000 but this individual did not know who or how the tab was covered.

Further word came Quincy Quarry News’ way from a roadie of a sort that the staging for the performance surely run another $50,000 or thereabouts.

Accordingly, such would indicate an all in cost for the no admission charge event on the order of $100,000.

Unknown, however, is who or who all ponied up to cover the whole nut.

Special interests …

Then again, Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch is well-known for relying on the generosity of special interests even if he is not exactly known for disclosing it, especially not with telling granularity.

For a germane example, Mayor Koch surely raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to underwrite the dedication of the General’s Bridge four years ago from mostly the usual connected and bucks up special interests who in turn surely sought favors in return from Quincy’s peerless mayor.

Provide a formal accounting of exactly what was provided by whom, however …

In other words, the true as well as oh so “Quincy Way” during the Koch Maladministration.

The usual suspects

Accordingly, while taxpayers have been tapped for hundreds of thousand of dollars to fund Mayor Koch’s confabulating of a 400th birthday for Quincy while at the same time downplaying the early days of the pagan paradise that was Merry Mount, Quincy Quarry has a short list of possible additional funders of the Dropkick Murphys’ performance.

A wicked short list.

Even so, at this point Quincy Quarry News currently has no information as to who or perhaps what company may have laid out large this time so as to endeavor to curry the mayor’s favor.

A smoke-filled backroom.

Regardless, the touts on the Quincy Quarry News’ sports desk and sports book are currently posting serious odds as to the likely funder of the Drop Kick Murphys’ recent performance which clearly indicate that an at least significant funder to be the real estate company that is seeking a serious tax break and zoning variances for its plans to redevelop a strip mall in Quincy Center where Boston Chicken once had a location.

In other words as well as again, the Quincy Way …

After all, like city hall’s hyenas are going to change their spots

At the same time, if a bucks-up sponsor or sponsors did cover the cost of the event, such would go against Dropkick Murphys’ long-ongoing credo of railing against the moneyed and/or those connected taking advantage of working stiffs and/or skirting the law.

Accordingly, Quincy Quarry News’ ever-growing legions of loyal readers can count on the Quarry to keep its ears to the ground and eyes open as well as monitor its Drop a Dime email drop-box.so that it might be able to then report any credible or at it least compelling information that may come its way.
