Is staking out the mayor on a local frozen street next?

The City of Quincy scored a hard fail with its response to Saturday into Sunday’s snow turning to sleet to rain weather event.
Plows were few and far between through 2 am early Sunday morning per Quincy Quincy News’ City Citizen Snow Monitor and insomniac.
Further, a Houghs Neck resident reports seeing but one pass by a plow truck around 5:30 this morning but Neck streets were still snowy white as of 7 am as yesterday’s brining of streets ihas proven to be ineffectual.
Especially bad was how streets citywide were snow white even on major arterials overnight as well as that Quarry’s snow monitor did some driving about last night and so found snowy slip and slides masquerading as streets.
Simply put, not only did the extensive brining of local streets do little if anything to clear the snowfall, snow plows and road salters were all but nowhere to be seen.

FYI: not my fault nor am I wearing my Men of Divine Mercy fleeced fleece

Then again, it is a long holiday weekend and some to perhaps many snow removal workers opted to burn some vacay time and overtime pay to head somewhere sunny and at least somewhat warmer even if only in front of a fireplace.
At same time, per Quincy Quarry News’ embedded assets the City of Quincy’s Department of Public Works are conversely as old and rundown as Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch’s low mileage, late model and well-maintained $65,000 full sized and leather-upholstered SUV is a sweet ride.

Getting warmed up before hitting the snowy streets of Quincy?

Similarly problematic, the City of Quincy’s on hand inventory of salt is thinning faster than the mayor’s once thick head of hair.
Granted, it is expected that rain will fall over much of Sunday and so eventually melt away the snow and ice on local streets.
In the meanwhile, however, many locals as well as local first responders need to be able to get out and about.
Quincy DPW, you never fail to disappoint—especially when it snows. After yet another storm, residents are once again left playing a thrilling game of “Guess Where the Road Ends and the Sidewalk Begins.” Plows? Salt? A coherent strategy? Apparently, those are just optional.
City officials assure us that they’re “doing their best,” which, judging by the ice rinks formerly known as our streets, isn’t saying much. Maybe if we all collectively pretend the potholes are just “seasonal terrain features,” we can trick ourselves into thinking Quincy has a functioning winter response plan. Until then, grab your skates, folks—it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
It appears there is a pecking order when it comes the the clearing of snow from sidewalks outside city owned properties. Downtown/Quincy Center are cleared or at least have a walkway down to the concrete. In the neighborhoods, take your safety in your own hands and enjoy walking in the street.
