January ended up finishing as cold as it started in Quincy in spite of climate change.
For example, after a rough few weeks prior, Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch went a different way with the annual State of the City address.
Instead of addressing the state of Quincy these days, Mayor Koch opted to phone it in with a very dry recap more befitting of a rubber chicken dinner retirement speech by a retiring city historian recounting her but far more likely his favorite Quincy natives.
Then again, with local spending all but out of control and the State Ethics Commission probing Mayor Koch’s, going off message was about his only option to duck and cover from incoming flak.
Speaking of messages, a message was sent to him by the lack of consequential political players not directly bound to Quincy attending his State of the City address this year even though Mayor Koch is known for his after State of the City speech buffets.
And speaking of pigging out at the public trough, the City Council President announced the cancellation of this coming Monday night’s regularly scheduled City Council meeting.
The reason?
Nothing is on the agenda to address.

“Look, we have nothing to rubber stamp.”

Finally, a little candor even if oh so amusingly inadvertent.
In short as well as yet again, Only in Quincy ..
Oh so embarrassingly only in Quincy..
The more the Lord Mayor speaks, the less he says. And all the Koch suckers out there nod their heads like bobbleheads, thinking his words are profound.
