This coming Monday night’s regular bimonthly City Council meeting has been cancelled.
The reason for this all but unprecedented cancelling of a council meeting?
In particular, the Quincy Quarry News staffer who was assigned to cover the council meeting was especially disappointed.
Most curious, however, is why should councillors have been looking at a 45% raise this calendar year were it not put on hold given Quincy Quarry News’ confirming of a review by the State Ethics Commission into the apparent illegality of how their and the mayor’s raises were implemented last spring but are now on hold pending completion of an administrative investigation by the Ethics Commission.
Unclear, however, is if the Ethics Commission is looking into a 33% raise also for the councillors also problematically implemented several years ago.
Further unknown at this point is if Ethics might also be investigating the propriety of their also sizeable raises a dozen years ago, not to mention why should they now be looking forward to seeing any raises if they are cancelling meetings?
The way it’s been going, we’re better off when they don’t do anything. The outcome is better than when they do.
So they can not muster up an agenda and look into some of the spending issues and mismanagement by the Koch Administration!
The reason being not one on the current council has smarts or nerve/guts to challenge the mayor on a single issue.
Yet these rubber stampers are looking for a pay increase, and they cannot fulfill the job they were elected too.
This November hopefully there will be candidates running to remove the likes of DiBona, Harris, Devine and the others who have brought NOTHING to the council except the mayor’s budget busting proposals.
The city is awash in red ink, yet this council continues to approve spending that is driving the tax rate out of control.
Straight into a new calendar void. Truly inspiring to see our elected officials take decisive inaction when faced with the overwhelming challenge of having “nothing to do.” Maybe next time they can schedule a meeting to discuss how impressively empty their agenda was. Democracy in action, folks — if by “action” you mean “prolonged coffee break.”
The taxpayers of Quincy need to rebel against this pack of thieves. They are looking for a sizable pay increase, yet they cannot do the peoples work. Mayor Koch must have told the lap dog council president to stand down until the next underhanded deal is ready for the council’s nod.
Yes! Vote every one of them out.
