Quincy Massachusetts News, Opinion, and Commentary by Quincy Quarry News
The week past got off to a bad start for both Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch and city council members.
Why so?
Word hit the fan that the Massachusetts State Ethics Commission was at least significantly behind the deferral of approved and then funded fat raises for council members as well as an even fatter raise for Mayor Koch come the start of 2025 given that these raises are clearly in violation of Massachusetts General Law Chapter 268A, section 19.
Unarguable violation.
In turn, how ugly might things then become for council members and the mayor?
Wicked ugly.
Seriously wicked ugly
Violating Chapter 268A, section 19 poses the risk of serving up to five years in prison and thus poses the potential for losing one’s public sector pension benefits as anything over a year and a day sentence would be a felony conviction and so pension benefits voiding.
In turn, one can thus only assume that at least Mayor Koch and perhaps also City Council President Ian Cain are suffering sleepless nights.
Further ugly: there are five separate incidents of unarguably violating Chapter 268A, section 19, not to mention the likelihood of upwards of well into six figures worth of clawbacks of illegal pay raises previously paid.
Moreover, pattern or practice breakings of the law tend to rate prosecutors’ attention on the order of how chum attracts Great White Sharks looking for a meal.
Next up this week was a two motor vehicle crash on Southern Artery near the Hertz rental car operation just as Thursday evening commute traffic was already well along at slowing down traffic flow to a frustratingly slow crawl and so became even slower care of this most ill-timed crash.
Word on the street as well as supported by Quincy Quarry’s Photo Recon Team Six’s photos is that this latest crash on the ever-increasingly mean streets of Quincy was caused by someone carelessly running a red light and then t-boning a ride apparently with the right of way.
Even so, one can still only reasonably assume that the boning driver will try to blame the modest as well as obsolescent traffic signal set-up at this intersection as causing the crash.
And finally for the wrap this week, Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch was the featured ribbon cutter at the grand opening of the Fat Boy BBQ restaurant in Wollaston Center.
Some will likely at least suspect that Quincy Quarry News is making up this Quarry story, however, the truth is that such things happening in Quincy are not fiction and which in turn makes things oh so easy for the Quarry to report news about Quincy Massachusetts.
