— News about Quincy Massachusetts from Quincy Quarry News with commentary added.
Quincy’s IHOP® has been reduced to rubble to make way for another sure to be money-losing parking garage to be built for Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch’s arguably foundering redevelopment plans for Quincy.
How foundering?
Last spring parties tied to the Koch Machine admitted on the record at a city council meeting that Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch’s long-ongoing and variously delayed redevelopment plans are going to run upwards of $25 million in the red in coming years before steady positive revenue might happen in a couple of decades or so and then need to continue positive for decades more to offset the negative.
In the meanwhile, the negative will have to be covered by local taxpayers.
So what that for years Quincy Mayor Koch announced that the Quincy Center redevelopment project would be self-financing.
Even worse, Quincy Quarry’s quants have projected as much as a low nine-figure accrued negative by around 2040 or thereabouts with reimbursement of the negative then taking until 2060 or so, if not longer as in potentially much longer.
In the meanwhile, Quincy has lost another popular local breakfast venue and which provided a positive tax revenue, however admittedly modest.
Granted, there was talk that the IHOP® was going to move to a venue nearby, however, so far Quincy Quarry has seen no clear signs that such is actually going to happen.
More unfounded negative reporting. And the grammar is horrible, never mind the spelling. Did any of you go to elementary school?? How can anyone take you seriously when you can’t even construct a sentence??
A little “hangry” are we?
For example, unfounded how? The building where the IHOP long-operated has been leveled and the various metrics noted in this Quarry story are for the most part known, on the record, etc.
At the same time — as well as admittedly, Quincy Quarry’s Rewrite Editor has been know to fall off the wagon. As such, someone will take a look at this story’s copy ASAP.
There is an IHOP a few miles away in Braintree
Gerald,
The Braintree IHOP is four miles away from the location of Quincy’s former IHOP. It is also in Braintree. Need I say any more?
Well, there goes Quincy’s hottest spot for 2 a.m. pancakes and questionable life choices —- reduced to a pile of rubble faster than you can say ‘Rooty Tooty Fresh ‘N Fruity.’ Guess those late-night cravings will just have to find a new home. Honestly, though, if you asked anyone, that IHOP had been flirting with demolition since the Bush administration. Pour one out for the memories (and maybe the coffee that never quite tasted right). RIP, Quincy IHOP -— you’ll be missed … but mostly by the folks who forgot to buy groceries.
