The first Quincy City Council meeting after its months’ long summer recess was hit with a sizeable protest over its approval late last spring of an 89% raise for Quincy Mayor Koch on a pension calculations basis as well as 50% raises for councillors that were not approval per a local ordinance.
Easily a hundred protesters were rallying in front of Old City Hall by roughly 5:30 pm yesterday before a scheduled 6:30 pm city council meeting.
In turn, the City of Quincy rolled out thirteen Quincy bicycle police officers and one long pants wearing uniformed officer.
All to control an expected to be unruly crowd of mostly gray to white haired locals past to in some cases well past a certain age.
Fortunately, none of the few protesters who were pushing a walker or relying on a can were roughed and cuffed by police.
Even so, the protesters were often noisy during the City Council meeting as well as then left the meeting to chant stop the steal, stop the greed, and the like so loud outside that they could be hear inside during the rest of the council’s meeting as well as the protesters continued to do so after councillors adjourned the council meeting and then cowardly scurried out of City Hall via the back way.
Even so, as well as all things considered, the chanting protesters were more pleasant to listen to than a snippy council president.
Way more pleasant …
Shame on the Patriot Ledger and shame on the City Council for not calling out the Mayor’s ridiculous pay raise. Teachers fought for a tiny percentage of a raise while the Mayor got 89 percent! How many years would you have to be a teacher to get a raise equaling 89 percent? Probably 30 years. Koch is laughing all the way to the bank. He compared himself to Town Managers with Masters degrees in accounting or comparable while he has no degree.
13 officers because people dared to speak up. SMH. Remember Ian Cain the next time he runs for office. These political hacks are all recycled trash anyway. They all move around like ants looking for bigger pensions. Why doesn’t Koch go get a job with his buddy Hale? I am sure he needs some landscapers for $300,000 per year. The police will do Koch’s bidding because he gives them everything they want of course because always remember with Koch it is “All in the Family.”
Quincy residents get potholes, rising taxes, and “oops, sorry” responses, while the mayor and councillors give themselves a fat raise like they’re professional athletes signing new contracts. If only their leadership skills were as hefty as their paychecks. Meanwhile, residents are left holding the bag… or should I say, the check?
