In what was surely welcomed by licensed premise operators, the drinking class, and perhaps even ride-sharing companies, a Massachusetts state senator has submitted legislation to bring back Happy Hour after it was banned forty years ago after a number of tragic drunk driving incidents.
At the same time, do not get your hopes up even though this bill might well be the most enjoyable one for lobbyists to lobby for in their respective careers and in spite of expected pushback by Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
In any event as well as needless to say, Quincy Quarry News’ ever-growing legions of loyal readers can count on the Quarry to continue follow this story and report updates as appropriate.
- Update: Vote on restoring Happy Hour scheduled!
- Update: Preliminary vote passed – will Happy Days soon be here again?
Bringing back Happy Hour? What a bold move! Because nothing screams “progress” like resurrecting a tradition from the days when mullets were cool and shoulder pads were a fashion statement. I guess the state has finally realized that its citizens need a break from all that wholesome, sober productivity. Cheers to bringing back an era of discounted liquid courage and regrettable decisions. I can’t wait to see how this blast from the past shakes things up. Bottoms up, Bay Staters. Don’t worry, it’s not like anyone has work the next day or anything.
