Sometimes to perhaps at least a bit more often one just wants to go out for an affordable adult libation in a quiet and typically smaller watering hole where most everyone knows your name but will leave you alone if you so wish.
In turn, today is the day to feel free to do so as it is National Dive Bar Day.
Unfortunately, not only are dive bars dwindling in number In Quincy even as its population is growing, a perfectly respectable Irish pub in Quincy Center is fighting the good fight against its landlords who are trying to illegally terminate the pub’s lease.
Fortunately, the pub’s owner has not only retained counsel and who then filed a compelling lawsuit, the owner’s attorney has previously swived the landlords in a similar enough sort of dispute.
Further, these same landlords have a long history of controversy, ranging from from being officially spanked and so fined for providing straw campaign donation to mostly Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch as well as continuing to be his top campaign fund contributors going away anyway..
The landlords have also been forced to sell their own pour liquor license in Boston for cause.
Actually, a lot of causes, including multiple gunfire incidents at their now former licensed premise.
In short, while the Quincy Center pub will likely be hosting a final last call at some point perhaps sooner rather than later as preferred by the pub’s owner, the landlords’ are looking to have pony up if they hope to build yet another cheap as well as ugly podium and stick apartment building in Quincy Center anytime soon on a site where the pub is currently operating.
Unless, that is, some collection specialists from — say — Brighton Beach or perhaps Treasury agents make an “unexpected” call on the landlords first.
