— Quincy Massachusetts News by Quincy Quarry News – News, Opinion, and Commentary
After years of hunting Quincy’s Kogia Wima whale, Quincy Quarry News has never seen as many others also taking shots at the elusive as well as relatively small target.
Short for a whale anyway.
Not just angry local homeowners who were hit with an over 8% increase on the average homeowner’s tax bill this year, but also even the South Shore broadsheet and Quincy’s tabloid chimed in less than favorably over Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch’s seeking an 88% salary raise that would make him one of the best paid mayors in the United States.
At least as regards W-2 and 1099 reported income anyway.
Of particular interest, comments posted to the Quarry’s coverage on the mayor’s proposed raise for himself set records for comments posted to any previous Quincy Quarry News exposé series with none of the comments favorable towards the mayor.
None, zip, nada.
Not even but a peep out of self-proclaimed Mayor Koch defender Vinnie Veritas.
The only area where the interest came up short was on article reader click rates as compared to Quarry’s long-reigning click bait queen, the former Ward One Ward Heeler.
On the other hand, Mayor Koch’s pay pop stories are recent and the click counts are still popping, not to mention that Quincy Quarry fully expects more pay pop exposés to follow soon if not continuing for months to come.
In short, only in Quincy. the (real, ed.) Quincy way — whatever.
Solicitor Timmins is the real issue for the residents of this city. He has cost us far more than any pay raise to the mayor. No one even elected him.
He has lost on just about every legal issue he has represented the city on.
This is just recently but he has been in that office for decades
1. Woodward School yet again.
2. The Airbnb lawsuits seem to have just been dropped
3. Lunar new year holiday the school is getting second opinion on as they don’t trust him.
If I was a betting man I would bet on the opposite of what Timmins says is the law.
In the mayor raise case Timmins says the city voted to supersede the charter in the 1950’s. If you look at the list of general acts that the city has accepted

You will notice chapter 39 section 6a he mentions is the law now isn’t even on the list. Chapter 39 section 23d was just accepted in 2006. Some one should public record request a copy of the acceptance since Timmins claims to have it then it should be easy to produce.
No argument, betting against City Solicitor “Dim” Timmins on most anything is a safe bet.
The only problem is that even if one wins the bet the winnings won’t cover my vig. Not even close.
More importantly and as someone who has spent time in a courtroom, even I can see that the City Council should be referring the local ordinance and state law out to the State Attorney General for review given councillors’ obvious conflict of interest re their also proposed pay raises.
The Councilors of this city are bought & paid for. We knew the vote before it is taken. Congrats to Daniel Minton for not kissing Koch’s ass.
Take a look at the Koch campaign donation records. Wonder how someone gets hired in Quincy? Wonder how they get promoted? Wonder how they become a department head? Wonder how their kid gets hired? Wonder how positions just appear?
Sit down some night and look at the state’s campaign donation website and it will answer your questions. Kiss asses looking for favors. They have to donate to the Mayor’s campaign. It is sickening but that is how it is all done. You look at city workers who don’t even make that much. They know they have to pay Caesar or they are not getting that promotion.
The councilors know he is not worth $285,000 in the private sector. He has no degree. City Managers have Masters degrees in Public Administrator or are CPAs. Taxpayers need to vote these bought and paid for Councilors out.
You think Anne Mahoney would have voted for this? Think again! Maybe Koch will reimburse the taxpayers the $10,000 for the company we paid for tell him how much money he is worth! Imagine if the company told the truth! Whitey Bulger lived in Quincy. He should have run for Mayor! He could have put the arm on everyone legally AND had the title “The Honorable James Whitey Bulger.”
Stefan,
A minor quibble as regards Mayor Koch’s campaign fund. Over half of the money comes from non locals.
Bill,
No argument. At the same time you should see the financial reports we see.
