Quincy Quarry News’ Senior Citizen Police Scanner Monitor picked up some frantic police radio chatter during a short span of time mid-afternoon today.
First up, there was word of yet another pedestrian whacking around 2 pm with this whacking apparently occurring on Newport Avenue.
While radio chatter was flying fast and furious, it would appear that this second pedestrian whacking in less than twenty-four hours occurred in the vicinity of the intersection as well as merger of Newport Avenue and Hancock Street in North Quincy.
Not only was someone apparently transported from the scene to a hospital, a Department of Public Works street sweeper was sent to clean up the mess.
Further, as well as especially troubling, Quincy police ordered that the vehicle that likely struck the pedestrian be impounded, something which is clearly indicative as to how serious was the whacking.
And as for the second incident of this afternoon, it was a fire call at the Munroe Building, a city-owned low-rise building that was controversially bought by Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch adjacent to Quincy City Halls as well as the Quincy Center MBTA station and opposite the westerly half of the Presidents Place office building.
No word, however, how serious was the suspected fire or just exactly what happened as well as where so as to give rise to the fire call.
Even so, Quincy Quarry knows enough to know that at least at some point before the city bought the building from connected private ownership that the Munroe Building’s electrical wiring in at least the building’s basement left much to desired; however, at the time city building inspectors refused to order that repairs be made or at least press for a proper fire inspection to be undertaken undertaken.
