— Quincy Massachusetts News by Quincy Quarry News – News, Opinion and Commentary
Early Saturday evening around 5:30 pm and thus twilight time, Quincy Quarry News’ senior Citizen Police Scanner Monitor heard word of both a pedestrian and a bicyclist struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of Coddington, Temple and Washington Street in Quincy Center.
While details are scarce at this point, multiple ambulances were dispatched to the accident scene as well as traffic flow through the area sorely disrupted at this high traffic load choke point of an intersection.
Also scarce is any word out of Quincy’s City Hall about the metastasizing epidemic of motor vehicle strikes of pedestrians and bicyclist in Quincy, an epidemic that likely hit a record of at least six such strikes locally over but eight recent days’ time.
In fact, as near as Quincy Quarry News can recall, no words whatsoever out of City Hall in at least recent months as regards the burgeoning rate of whackings of pedestrians and bicyclists by motor vehicles in Quincy.
Driving through Quincy has become a nightmare. No one knows what a speed limit is, double parking is the norm, and stop signs in my neighborhood are treated as if they are suggestions, not mandatory, even at 4-way stop intersections. Do we need to litter the city with speed bumps? Too many accidents and near accidents. Our auto insurance rates have gone up and you know those rates use accident reports as part of the metric. We should be able to walk and bicycle safely and it’s getting more difficult as time passes.
