Quincy Quarry’s Senior Citizen Road Monitor was out and about this morning before sunrise and so advised the Quarry’s newsroom of the following.
During the roughly 6 AM time frame, the Quarry’s Road Warrior found local streets were clear of snow, the air temperature was 35 degrees, and very little — if any — rain falling.
At the same time, City of Quincy as well as contracted by the City of Quincy plow and sanders trucks were seen all over Quincy, albeit most were parked and idling in parking lots here and there.
Only Furnace Brook Parkway showed signs of salting with such likely done care of a quick one and done by the State of Massachusetts as Furnace Brook is a Department of Conservation and Recreations road.
Considerable expense of City of Quincy-funded trucks mostly just parked and idling incurred out of an abundance of caution notwithstanding, city officials could argue that salt not spread was a saving of tax dollars.
At the same time, so what if the City of Quincy’s Fiscal Year 2024 budget for snow and ice removal was cut from what was budgeted last year per a rational of climate change.
Additionally, one can only wonder how much money is still in the kitty given the City’s less than adroit responses to the combined near handful of very modest snowfall events to date along with today’s no snowfall event — especifically as snow is known to fall in late January into February and early March as well as even into April.
