A modest apartment building located in the 300 block of Washington Street roughly opposite the South Cove Manor at Quincy Point Rehabilitation Center and thus near the Pond Street skateboard park was struck with what turned out to be a fortunately relatively modest fire Friday night around 10 pm.
A total of eight Quincy Fire Department firetrucks quickly rolled to the scene along with ambulances and Quincy police cruisers.
Traffic along Washington Street was detoured for a time until around when the fire was declared extinguished shortly before 11;30 pm.
Even so, some firefighters remained on the scene to check for fire in the walls of the building with thermal imaging cameras.
While a resident or residents was or were treated for smoke inhalation, there are no indications of more serious injuries.
Additionally, by mid-morning on Saturday the apartment building was secured and residents were seen removing personal effects from the building.
All in all, a potentially much worse fire was averted given a maximum and then effective response by the Quincy Fire Department.
