— Quincy Massachusetts News by Quincy Quarry News – News, Opinion and Commentary
While heading into Monday night’s City Council meeting, the Quincy Quarry News reporter tasked with covering the meeting happened upon someone who appeared to be homeless and laid out on a mat in front of City Hall.
Then just as the Quincy Quarry staffer was in the middle of unexpectedly taking a quick but respectful digital image of the camper and then planning to call the Quincy Police Department dispatch unit, a female patrol officer came out of nowhere and approached person.
While not lingering given the arrival of a police officer, it quickly became clear to the Quarry reporter that the camper was female.
Additionally, with an officer on the scene and still early in the evening, it was only reasonable to assume that the woman was subsequently transported to Father Bill’s for the night or somewhere comparable.
Even so, while not Mass and Cass, such an attempt to camp outdoors in Quincy still poses obvious concerns.
OMG, the reporter’s assumption that the homeless person was female was disrespectful and microaggressive!
Amy,
The Quarry reporter overheard the individual respond to the police officer’s ask for a name. The name so offered included a female first name and was in a female voice. Additionally, as a respectful practice, the Quarry reporter did not make note of the name provided to the officer and further made sure to forget it.
The headline is misleading. I really seemed to think their was a bunch of people out on city hall. It was only one!
Miranda,
“… (T)heir was …” would appear to underscore that the confusion is within you.
One only has to feel the bite of the cold to be concerned. At least get those big Army tents with heat and food. So easy.
Okay, Karen. Maybe just walk by and pretend not to see the person. Of course you were about to call the cops smh, typical of you.
It’s only going to get worse given rent hikes and inflation.
