Finally, the City of Quincy has planted trees in the two long empty planters boxes along Saville Avenue opposite the convenience store in the Presidents Place office building.
Frederick “Cinco” Law Olmstead V, Quincy Quarry News’ arboreal advisor, has long monitored what had been empty planters on Saville Avenue opposite the Presidents Place building.
Finally, 18 months after the planters were built, Cinco recently stumbled onto trees recently planted into these planters.
At the same time, so what that he is aware of trees promised by the City of Quincy to be planted along the street in front of local residences have yet to be planted in spite of this year being an election year.
Or maybe because of it if these homeowners have not planted Koch for Koch campaign signs in their front yards.
After all, campaign lawn signs matter in Quincy even if certain lives do not.
In any event, what was planted was less to substantially less than what has been planted in similar planters nearby along Hancock Street.
Needless to say, Cinco will henceforth be monitoring these two new trees to see if they survive given the City of Quincy’s history of tree killings.
What’s the over and under for these trees to survive the winter?
On the other hand they may already be dead.
Wouldn’t be better to plant them in the spring?
Janis,
An FYI: fall is a good time to plant a tree, even after it has dropped its leaves in advance of winter.
So long as it is now dormant and thus still alive so that it can weather the upcoming cold months that is.
We just got ours after applying in mid-spring. They said it would be planted in early Fall, but maybe it was because we had a Mahoney sign outside.
