Quincy Quarry News’ review of Massachusetts Office of Campaign and Political Finance (“OCPF”) data has found that Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch has reported spending upwards of $350,000 with just three political consulting firms since a reasonable cutoff date for paying off any such bills arising from his 2019 election campaign through the end of July 2023.

The three consulting shops are Dewey Square for roughly $170,000, DAPA Research Inc for over $37,000, and brand new to political work Yellow House Consulting for exactly $140,458.00 per OCPF.

For a sense of the scale of such spending on political consultants by Mayor Koch, the total of all categories of spending by both candidates in a typical mayoral election in the ten most populated cities after only properly excluding the handful or more times more populated Boston runs less — in fact, much less on average —  than what Koch has already spend to date on but political consultants this local election cycle.

Additionally, if one only reasonably assumes that Mayor Koch’s recent monthly spending on consultants will continue unchanged as well as factoring in the typical slow paying of bills by the Koch campaign fund, it is reasonable to expect that at least another $50,000 will be spend by Mayor Koch on political consultants this election cycle and thus a projected grand total of $400,000 but likely even more spent on such hired guns.

Further, per a quick look at Boston Mayor Michelle Wu’s OCPF reports, it would appear that she did not spend anywhere near as much on political consultants during her successful election campaign to become the Mayor of Boston as Mayor Koch has already spent on consultants to date on his reelection bid.

Further troubling, spending 400 large on outside consultants suggests that even Mayor Koch knows that his inner circle is no A Team.

Plus, no way would B.A. ever work for the Koch Machine.

Additionally note that OCPF data indicate that Mayor Koch’s campaign fund has paid out tens of thousands of dollars on political campaign working meeting dining expenses.

In this instance, this is campaign spending that shows.

Around the mayor’s ample girth anyway.

In any event, Quincy Quarry’s ever-growing legions of loyal readers can count on Quincy Quarry to continue to slog through OCPF data and so provide the bases for further political campaign spending in Quincy this local elections year.
