In what one can only reasonably assume is ultimately a taxpayer-funded pander for votes in Squantum by the Koch Machine, a Quarry Citizen Photojournalist dimed out a surely expensive street repaving do-over of East Squantum Street in Squantum.
Roughly a year and change ago, East Squanum Street was fully repaved, old asphalt sidewalks replaced with concrete pavement as well as concrete sidewalks added where sidewalks never were.
In recent days, however, the relatively fresh pavement on East Squantum street was torn up after underground utility lines were subsequently redone and then East Squantum Street was again repaved.
So what, apparently for the fact that new pavement is by formal policy not supposed to be cut for such below grade work barring an emergency for at least several years for reasons both obvious as well as otherwise.
In this instance, word on the street has is that the below grade utilities lines were wrongly redone before the original repaving was done over a year.
Accordingly, if the word on the street is true, the Department of Public Works thus surely owns this latest koch-up.
The key reasons why are that the DPW both does the project design engineering for such projects in-house as well as is supposed to quality control the work of the company that scores the contract to do the work.
In turn, damn the expense as it is an election year and the Koch Maladministration needs to do all it can to score votes for Mayor Koch in Squantum as he is deservedly facing problems with voters in various other neighborhoods.
For example, in Merrymount of late as well as has long been the case in Houghs Neck for but starters.
And then there are the streets that don’t get repaved even once for 40 or 50 years.
Mayor Koch said the City doesn’t repair roads, they rebuild them… In other words, no maintenance either. SMH.
You can literally see “repair” patches on just about every street.🤷🏻♂️😂
“Patches” anyway …
