Regional media continue to find Quincy a font for features stories.
Breaking badly bad news© stories and which have long been the stock in trade for Quincy Quarry News.
In this latest instance, on Tuesday at the end of school day a Central Middle School seventh grader is said to have flashed a piece packed inside of his belt to some fellow students.
Central Middle is home to the Quincy Public Schools only academic exam program.
While found to be unloaded when Quincy police went to the student’s home and seized the gun, legitimate concerns linger.
For example, police only have the student’s word that the gun was not loaded while he is said to have had it on his person during his day in school.
Quincy Public Superintendent Kevin Mulvey said that the student is facing serious sanctions by the school district, including suspension and surely other problems to follow with the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services and others involved with addressing juvenile delinquency.
Superintendent Mulvey, who is an attorney by training as well as experience an attorney but not a teacher, distributed an e-letter to parents regarding the incident on Wednesday.
No words reported, however, as to what the student’s parent(s) who apparently own the gun might be facing.
Further disconcertting, at the time of publication, Quincy Quarry News was not aware of any statement regarding this troubling incident from Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch and who as mayor is also the Chair of the School Committee.
Then again, this year is a mayoral election year and thus opting for a duck and cover lockdown in City Hall until such time as he can come up with likely expensive plan to foist to parents even though research ha found that hardening schools has its limits.
