Legs broken can still happen to strikers …

Gannett is the current name of the company that owns the most newspapers in the United States.  Papers owned include the South Shore’s published six days a week broadsheet.

After years of downsizing staff, meager raises, and otherwise less than appreciative treatment by management, at least mostly reporters who are members of the NewsGuild-Communications Workers of America walked out for at least today at two dozen or so Gannett which have unionized newsrooms.

After all, who likes workday Mondays?

Plus, for maximum effect, today was the day for Gannett’s annual stockholders meeting.

While the South Shore broadsheet is believed to not have a union newsroom, one can only assume it might be among other Gannett newspapers where at least same personnel are calling in sick (of work, ed.) today – not that anyone might notice any difference as multiple reporters have left the broadsheet in recent weeks.

Conversely, no such problems at Quincy Quarry News.

While compensation can always be better, Quincy Quarry’s benefits and work conditions are without equal.

The Quarry’s bennies include typically more beer and wine bottles in the office refrigerator than soda cans, regular company dinings out for purported working “staph” meetings and featuring an unlimited bar tab to assure attendance as well as no problem at the Quarry if one wants to work out of the office, work from home or at one’s favorite water hole.
