– News about Quincy Massachusetts from Quincy Quarry News
Quincy Quarry News has long been working dimes and more as regards long ongoing rumblings of City of Quincy employees working side hustles while on the clock for the city.
Unfortunately, Quincy Quarry has not been able to score the money shot to sufficiently confirms things.
Until now, that is.
Via a source inside of City Hall comes word of the head of a middling city work unit caught working a side hustle while on the clock at his City of Quincy day job.
Brazenness, if not also gross stupidity, of the manager apparently includes the dumping debris from his purported landscaping side hustle into the city’s cemetery waste pile instead of just dumping it at the City’s compost pile within the Department of Public Works’ corporation yard and where private landscape maintenance services are welcome to dump their organic yard waste material gratis.
Then again, as a known figure, dumping the yard waste from his purported side hustle at the Department of Public Work’s compost pile might have raised questions even among DPW personnel.
After all, wonders never cease, even within the ranks of the City of Quincy.
Then again, maybe not.
In any event, still unclear at this point is what sanctions may be imposed upon the purported side hustler.
For example, firing for cause would appear to be entirely reasonable to impose.
Further, pursuing the termination of the offender’s city pension might also be in order, depending on the particulars given a proper investigation that is.
After all, this alleged side hustle is likely not this hustler’s first rodeo.
Additionally, there is at least some considerable potential for at least hot talk around city water coolers as the alleged side hustler is married to the head of the City of Quincy’s Purchasing Department.
Further, there were previous rumblings that this side hustler may have played fast and loose with city assets in the purported low five figure range.
Needless to say, Quincy Quarry News’ ever-growing legions of low readers can count on the Quarry to continue to follow this breaking badly bad news© and report on same as might be appropriate..
So he was using city trucks to do the side jobs? If he had his own truck wouldn’t he have used that to dump the debris? If I called a landscaper, flags would go up if the truck had a city logo on it.
JP,
The Quarry is still working the story and thus at this point does not know if the alleged double-dipping city manager may have been using equipment on his purported side hustle. On the other hand, one can imagine how at least some clients might be expect the hustler to show up to do the work in a city ride.
John,
It doesn’t mention anything about trucks. The side hustler was working his landscaping business DURING the hours he was supposed to be working at his city job and getting paid for that job.
It does mention that the employee was dumping debris. Unless he carried it by hand, it involved a vehicle. My question was if it was a public or private vehicle that did the dumping.
Oddly, I did not see a new job opening at the cemetery advertised on the city’s employment page. Please keep us posted on this story.
Sanctions? A promotion and a raise.
Asterisk,
First the good news: the job is still a union gig and thus only seeing a 3% raise this year per the current union contract.
The bad news. The position was at least recently undergoing discussions to be moved to non-contract and thus hack hire status and thus see it opened up for the family and friends salary boost. Now, however, WTQ knows what’s gonna go down even if we have solid opening expectations.
Further bad news, as the job is still a union job it will be interesting to see how a possible union grievance might play out.
Somethings never change. DPW workers will be bribing little kids to get their booze at the liquor stores. Hide around the corner. Sit and get bombed on the job.
R U crazy?
Never happen on DPW watch.
Cameras everywhere. GPS on every truck. Guys up top wanting your job for their kids. Wake up looser!
I can attest to this as well. Only the facts ma’am.
Dean,
So, Freddie finally retired?
You know the facts are damning when Pork Chop is MIA on defending this double dipper.
Yes, and we should count our blessings –the lack of his moronic drivel is pleasant.
The article seems to suggest taking a man’s pension because it’s not his first rodeo. Does this mean punishment for things he might have done, or probably did? Fine journalism.
Steve,
With all the respect due you, you are mistaken.
At this point it is unclear how considerable may have been the purported abuse or how much effort the City of Quincy might care to expend to see if there are other instances as a proper investigation should look to see if any other double dipping has occurred.
At a minimum, double dipping is readily sufficient grounds for firing with also facing the loss of pension benefits depending on how much abuse may have occurred as well as how.
Further keep in mind that merely firing would end the accruing of further pension benefits as they are predicated upon years of service and one’s high three years of pay.
Guess Quincy will have to vote in the next Michelle Wu to fire these stiffs. Replace the drunken remnant with hard working Asians. That is progress.
He is the mayor’s little buddy. He won’t even get a slap on the wrist.
Sam,
More like his boo has chits. A lot of chits c/o doing solids for favored vendors.
Same guy that cost the city an undisclosed amount of money c/o a sexual harassment suit and yet got promoted to a high paying job! And now in the middle of another harassment suit! Also not in union anymore, appointed position.
Same guy who is known to have a major gambling habit. Who has been stealing equipment for years. borrowing money off laborers in exchange for free overtime.
Yes same guy that’s had many fired. Same guy that the city has paid off employees that’s he harassed and forced them to leave. Same guy that tarnished there name and even ruined there chance to become a quincy cop even an out of state law Enforcement job.
While Quincy Quarry News is asserting its Section 230 protection (see https://www.eff.org/issues/cda230 ), Quincy Quarry News’ readers can rest assured that the Quarry is duly working Anonymous’ and other assertions as regards this latest alleged double-dipping senior City of Quincy official.
How is this senior manager back to work today.
Anon,
Was the Cemetery side hustler out on paid administrative leave while things got broomed? “Enquiring minds want to know.”
