When Charlie Baker become the Governor of Massachusetts, it was widely expected locally that Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch would be named as the Commissioner of the Department and Conservation (“DCR”) to reward him for turning away from his lifelong card-carrying membership with the Democratic Party and then supporting Republican Baker’s gubernatorial bid.
Alas for still instead suffering locals, Quincy’s peerless mayor was not so dislodged from Quincy’s City Hall by such a kicking upstairs, much less did he so score a couple of pay and pension pops in what is not exactly a heavy lifting state gig.
Fast forward eight years later and after supporting Democratic candidate Maura Healey in her recent as well as inevitable bid to succeed Baker as the governor of Massachusetts, again Koch did not score the nod to be head of DCR as instead the now former mayor of Revere recently got the nod.
Needless to say, ending up beaten by a Revere mayor speaks volumes.
Even worse, Mayor Koch also recently struck out on landing several-fold fatter pay and pension pops given that he also did not score the appointment General Manager of the MBTA.
After all, surely he must have experienced some consideration for this half a million dollar a year job.
For example, Koch is a still huge proponent of Transit Oriented Development even after public transit commuting to work rates have plummeted as well as are not expected to return to pre-pandemic levels any time soon – if ever – as well as will likely be doing so even slower than how slowly the MBTA expects it will take to see its subway service return to something at least approximating its former normative subway train speeds as well as frequency of service.
Mayor Koch is also well-experienced at burning through millions and millions more in taxpayers; money as well as running late on the underlying and all too often not cost-effective initiatives. In fact, he is arguably nonpareil at doing so on an annual spending adjusted basis.
Plus, Koch has ostensible senior executive level public transpiration experience as he has been the over decade-long Chair of MBTA Advisory Board as well as is the senior member of the MBTA’s Board of Directors.
Mayor Koch is also aces at seeing local potholes patched; in what is an election year this year anyway.
Then again, familiarity does tend to breed contempt as well as that the top job at the T entails heavy lifting whereas Mayor Koch is but a heavy load.
Further, at least one savvy political player has long noted that Mayor Koch has to be a mayor for life as his inevitable successor will surely uncover all sorts of things which that person will then surely have no choice but to refer them along so as to cover her but more likely his tukas.

Why is the City of Quincy delaying an occupancy certificate for a new building on Granite St? Could it be because the original construction company was fired because it was way behind schedule and that company’s head is a friend of Mayor Koch?
Ken,
Thanks for the dime!!!
It’s too bad he isn’t like his Father Richard Koch
He must be a big disappointment to his family
It is more like the spineless bullies at the Quincy Quarry go 0 for 3, AGAIN.

Forget it Piggy, you aren’t swaying anyone’s opinion. As a matter of fact you continue to make yourself a laughing stock. To put it another way, you’re a pathetic failure.
More hate speech from the peanut gallery.

So, Porky, you’re telling us that you’re either a mindless robot or a common everyday simpleton. Got it!
Forget heading up the DCR! Leading the MBTA is way below the skills of our Mayor Koch! He obviously has set his sights much higher. He must be eyeing a run for President in 2024! If you consider what he has done for the City of Quincy, just imagine what he could accomplish as President of the United States!!! After all, Quincy is the City of Presidents!
You forgot to add the /S
Actually, look at the Governor, do you not think Koch would be better than that bull d*ke, of course. Look also at either of our Senators, would Koch not be better than that horse face or ice cream man? Of course. Lots of places he’d do better than these current officials. Not exactly an endorsement here, just pointing out how F’d these leaders are.
That’s certainly a revolting comment.
He wants to make sure he is mayor for Quincy’s
400th birthday. After that anything goes
