– News about Quincy Massachusetts from Quincy Quarry News
Quincy Quarry News considered itself blessed that the great-grandson of Charles Acton contributed to the overview of a so-called multicultural folk music and dancing festival hosted last weekend by the City of Quincy at Kim Jong Koch Plaza.
First up, it was surprising that the two-day outdoor event even went forward given that Eastern Massachusetts has been mired in one of the largest spates of heat emergency days in recorded history.
Plus, one can only scratch her or his head over the fact that the event could have been readily accommodated within the air conditioned and near-live theater grade auditorium at nearby Quincy High School.
Then again, moving the event to Quincy High auditorium would have likely hindered, if not precluded, the beer trailer as well as would have certainly constricted food sales by food truck vendors.
Regardless, the one thing that was especially troubling was no obvious signs of medical care, such as ambulance, at the ready in the event of a heal-related medical emergency at this multicultural event.
Fortunately, as well as again, there was a beer wagon even though its line was long.
And as for the heat, many were watching from shady places along Kim Jong Koch Plaza.
Children and those interested in participating in outside yard games set up nearby, however, not so much.
Then again, those attending Saturday evening’s crowd were more of a certain age and older,
That and how those in attendance on Statuary were about as diverse as those attending a Sunday late morning mass at Saint Brendan’s Parish on Morrissey Boulevard in Dorchester,if not also many of the same people.
In short, so much for multicultural, much less diversity.
Regardless, Saturday’s performance featured act well-presented a fine assortment of Irish ballads per Mr. Acton.
That and the singer managed to do so without collapsing from heat prostration into a pool of sweat.
And as for Sunday’s multiple acts as well longer line up of performers which started far earlier as well as in the heat of the day, the good news for them is that their performance times where limited to no more than thirty minutes.

We looked forward to walking up to the event, but it was just too hot. I wish the city had rescheduled the event so more families could attend.
