Commuter Rail fail during Monday evening commute.
In what has become as much of a regular staple for regional media as house fires and car accidents, public transit riders yet again become victims when an outbound Commuter Rail train assigned to the Framingham line broke down at roughly 6 PM Monday and thus during the height of the evening commute.
Passengers were so stranded on the train for hours without the benefit of air conditioning, much less any water unless they were packing it along, on a hot day as both the MBTA and Keolis announced that while they “understand that passengers were frustrated while the train was stopped,” both agencies feel that that the safest option was to keep passengers on board.
Even so, some passengers opted to flee the scene by relying on the kindness of strangers who provided ladders so that passengers could climb over chain link fencing along the tracks.
Quincy Quarry News briefly considered reaching out to Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch for comment as he is also both the decade-long Chair of the MBTA Advisory Board as well as the senior member of the MBTA Board of Directors, however, the Quarry’s City Editor decided why bother waiting for a response that would at best arrive no sooner than a Commuter Rail train.
