Quincy has limited cooling center capacity for locals as brutal ongoing heatwave peaks today
– News about Quincy Massachusetts from Quincy Quarry News
As the recent heatwave continues to whither locals and plants, the City of Quincy has failed to rise to the occasion.
So what, apparently, for the fact that today’s peak in the heatwave was well-forecast in advance and thus many surrounding communities have taken appropriate steps so as to endeavor to cool their vulnerable residents during what is a perilous public safety emergency.
In fact, the City of Quincy has failed twice in the face of what has been a dry and hot spell.
First City Hall called on locals to water its roughly fifteen hundred trees planted over the past few years as the city did not have a game plan in place to deal with only to be expected droughts.

Then again, as a one-time long-time Parks and Recreation Commissioner, one can readily imagine how Mayor Koch might give priority to trees; at least sorts/kinda anyway.
And now the City of Quincy has done precious little to provide cooling centers for locals who do not have ready access to air conditioned space today as the heat is expected to peak at close to an also humid one hundred degree day per the heat index scale.
How remiss is the Koch Maladministration as regards this public health emergency?
Only the main library in Quincy Center will be available today from 1 pm until but 5 pm as other library branches are closed today as well as that the Kennedy Senior Center is only open on weekdays.
If you are in need of a cool indoor spot during this week's heatwave, you can visit the Kennedy Center weekdays at 440 E Squantum St., 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. or one of @ThomasCranePL branches across the City. So what, apparently, that the senior center could have been opened to the public over this sweltering weekend as well as the air conditioned auditoria at Quincy High School, Central Middle School,, and perhaps the also air conditioned auditorium at the near new Southwest Middle School.
After all, the Koch Maladministration is nothing if not known for providing overtime to its favored peeps.
Plus, the City of Quincy’s Public Health Department operates out of the same building that houses the Kennedy Senior Center.
Then again, key kochsters are not suffering heat distress as they enjoy an air-conditioned City Hall as well as that Quincy Mayor Koch has enjoyed a ductless HVAC system at his personal residence since early on in his at this point overly long term in office as mayor and so are not facing heat distress.
Plus, Quincy’s peerless mayor has ready access to a manner of cooling splash pad while at City Hall, not that anyone would care to see him in a speedo.
Needless to say, Quincy Quarry will be doing its best to monitor expected heat health emergencies as best it can until the heat wave is expected to abate Monday night into Tuesday and report back to its ever-growing as well as not sweltering legions of loyal readers.

So, if one doesn’t have a Twitter account, they wouldn’t have any idea that the city had any cooling centers available for the public. No references — NONE — on the city’s web page. No announcement in local newspapers or on QATV (TASS). Apparently it’s never even crossed the minds of those whose minds it should have crossed, that in this city of 100,000 people, a large percentage may not use or even want to use Twitter?
The city wants the residents to water the GD trees that the city is apparently incapable of caring for but it’s lax about producing an easily accessible public safety message.
Twitter my ass!
Fred,
No offense, but do you realize that you have posted the basis for the Koch Maladministration to come up with yet another excuse for its yet again Q’ing up: blaming Elon Musk for Quincy residents’ not caring to rely on Twitter.
Beware, the local unhoused are using YOUR water to bath and afterwards are leaving your yard spigots running!
The guests of Father Bill’s are sent out of the facility at 7:00 AM. Father Bill’s does a terrific job in most aspects of its actions but there is no day program — one would think that FB would break its own rule to accommodate the safety of its people during this extreme weather.
Clearly, QP likes to kick other people when they’re down.
Was a heat emergency announced in Quincy?
Marie,
Quincy Quarry News was not provided with a press release of any such declaration by Mayor Koch nor has the Quarry find any announcement of same on either the City of Quincy’s website or its Twitter feed.
Then again, as well as in all fairness, Quincy Quarry did not check to see what might have been put out via the city’s MySpace homepage.
