The United States of America turns 246 years old today!
Fortunately, at least as far as the Quincy Quarry newsroom knows, no one is putting 246 candles on a cake as such would likely require a fire permit.
At least not many anyway.
Speaking of fires, please take the following presidential admonitions to heart.
Be kind to the dogs and cats when you set off fireworks. Buy them a steak, something like that.
And if you know there is a man or woman near who has seen combat, take the firecrackers somewhere else.

After all, all American family members deserve the right to enjoy life, liberty, and the joyful pursuit of tennis balls and balls of yarn.
And as for veterans, many – if not most – would prefer the simpler as well as quieter.
For example, focusing more on their comrades in arms who did not make it home alive than on them.
After all, our freedoms come at a cost.
An all too often grave cost.
