Quiccy Mayor Thomas P. Koch getting scalped by a woman.
– News about Quincy Massachusetts covered by Quincy Quarry News with commentary added
Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch folds under pressure over his dissing of Abigail Adams.
Fold like a cheap suit fold.
A band of plucky women protested the arguably chauvinistic Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch’s failure to duly honor Abigail Adams – easily one among the most important woman of her generation – somewhere within Kim Jong Koch Plaza, née the Hancock Adams Green, in front of Quincy’s two city halls.
Then again, Quincy Quarry News cannot help but suspect that she would have refused the so-called honor now proposed.
Suspected reasons include that one can readily imagine that Mrs. John Adams would not a fan of the banal and leaden Stalinist-style “heroic” statute of her husband that the vertically-challenged Mayor Koch commissioned Soviet-trained émigré sculptor Sergei Eylanbekov.
Even worse, Mayor Koch says he will yet again unilaterally retain Eylanbekov to create a sure to be a bland statute of her, especially as compared to the engaging statue of her with a young John Quincy Adams created by the well-regarded but now late Boston sculptor Lloyd Lillie that had long graced Quincy Square as well as was paired with the matching statue of John Adams.
Then again, such was ultimately only to be expected as Mayor Koch has too long had access to far more taxpayers’ money to burn than he will ever have in the way of aesthetics.
Further, Abigail would further find unacceptable le Koch’s passive-aggressive response to criticism: “Koch said Quincy residents will not have creative input when it comes to the sculpture itself, but that he did tell the group he would take their ideas under advisement when it comes to the section of the park dedicated to her.”
In short, a swive you outta Quincy’s free-spending of taxpayers’ money control freak.
Additionally, what about a proper statue for her son John Quincy Adams, the eighth president of the United States and easily also one of the most important figures in the early days of Independence and long dedicated public servant.
Further yet, there is her frugal nature.
After all, there are already perfectly lovely pair of unassuming statutes of her with a young John Quincy and the other of John Adams in storage and so available for reuse.
And for those who desire reading a deserved dope slopping of Quincy’s dope of a mayor, Quincy Quincy News recommends reviewing the latest takedown of Quincy’s peerless mayor by Quincy’s without equal as well as fearless gadfly.
In fact, the Quarry highly recommends reading the gadly’s latest dope-slapping of Mayor Joch.
So brutal was the gadfly’s dope-slopping of Quincy’s dope of a mayor notwithstanding, Quincy Quarry News has to concede that it will be years before the statute might be installed.
The reason for the years of delay, the still pending Phase 3 stage of spending even more money to construct this long-planned addition to Kim Jong Koch Plaza needed to so provide a venue for the now proposed statute of Abigail Adams will not commence until such time as both plans are set in place to makeover the Quincy Center MBTA, develop even more premium price for Quincy apartments in the air rights over the station a la the still under construction Charlie Foxtrot of a mess at the North Quincy MBTA station, and redevelopment of the site of the dubiously purchased by Mayor Koch Munroe building.
But what the hey, such will require somewhere in the range of several hundred million or likely even more to be spent to see these needed first steps set in place.
In other words, yet another wall job of bogus spin out of Mayor Thomas P. Koch.

This statue story makes my blood boil. New statues for this Koch vanity project are a waste of taxpayer money. A gross waste of money as well as in bad taste on oh so many levels.
Has Koch’s trusted Russian sculpturer done any work for Putin or his corrupt oligarchs?
The artist’s colleagues at Russia’s Federal Security Bureau must be delighted.
If the sculptor takes payment in rubles, Koch will come out of this smelling like roses. Just sayn.
And . . . what’s the story on Koch’s bizarre idea for a statue of Abigail Adams made of stone because “women look better” when they’re carved from stone. Or something. I can’t quite wrap my thinking around that.
But how many statues are we going to end up with? We already have the beloved and original statue of Abigail with young John Q, of course. But Koch has apparently now engaged the services of a sculptor/artist to make a “heroic” size and style statue of Abigail — and he’s also stated that there would be an INDOOR stone statue of Abigail.
Also, what the hell is going on? And how does the perfectly fine statue of John Adams (which disappeared along with Abigail) fit into this three or four-ring circus? I’m not even going to get into the taxpayer money that’s being wasted.
Fred,
My theory: mommy issues of a sort that not even Freud would touch.
Here’s another good one. This is quoted from the Quincy Sun:
“Most recently, Koch discussed dedicating a proposed performing arts center in the southern area of downtown for both Abigail and Louisa Catherine Adams, first lady to John Quincy Adams.”
So, maybe he thinks Abigail Adams and her daughter-in-law Louisa were actresses or musicians or game show hosts or something. And since he entertains the fantasy that Quincy’s Adams Green (or whatever it’s called these days) is on a par with the memorials and civic buildings in Washington DC, don’t be surprised if he starts referring to Quincy as “the Hollywood of the East”
A performing arts center.
Nutso.
We already have a performing arts center — City Hall. Grade Z performance.
