Quincy Quarry exposés Department of Natural Resources’ firewood pile.
Care of an alert as well as longtime Quincy Quarry News Citizen Journalist contributor comes the latest exposé in what is an all but an innumerable number of Quarry exposés of the myriad of failings of the Koch Maladministration.
While out and about enjoying some fresh air and exercise on one of the recent nice days, this Citizen Journalist heard the sound of loud hammering of a sort coming from behind a storage building within the grounds of the City of Quincy’s Department of Natural Resources’ compound and which has long referred to by more than a few snarky Quincy locals as The Country Club.
Accordingly, this Quincy Quarry Citizen Journalist then boldly slogged through brambles to endeavor to see what was the source of the sound and found a couple of individuals chopping wood behind a Department of Natural Resources storage building.
Needless to say. given that these individuals were packing axes, this Quarry Citizen Journalist laid low and was thus limited as to the quality of pictures taken through the brambles.
Even so, the timestamps on the images so gathered confirmed that the wood chopping was underway during weekday day shift work hours.
Even more problematic for the Department of Natural Resources and thus the Koch Machine by extension, this savvy Citizen Journalist circled back at another time and was so able to clearly photo document multiple wood piles behind the Department of Natural Resources storage building.
Full cords of woods in total as well as often piled high as a matter of photo-documented fact.
Granted, while Quincy Quarry is aware of reports that during now Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch’s tenure of the then Department of Parks and Recreation he very much enjoyed a purported fireplace in his roomy office space within the now Department of Natural Resource’s country club clubhouse of a sort, the amount of wood piled out behind the department’s shed was well in excess of what might be needed to keep a roaring fire going in the clubhouse’s chief executive’s office during the cold time of a full year.
Wicked way past in excess of need for several years as a matter of viable conjecture.
Accordingly, one can only reasonably suspect that perhaps another use of the firewood is planned.
For example, for sale or use at a city employee’s residence.
Accordingly, Quincy Quarry considered reaching out to the head of the City of Quincy’s Natural Resources Department or perhaps City Hall; however, the Quarry’s City Editor said why other wasting time as no answer should be expected.
Instead, the Quarry reached out to a senior recreational and open space maintenance supervisor who works for a nearby municipality for comment.
The high level of outrage expressed by this individual was surprising.
Very surprising as a matter of fact.
This manager is used to suffering subordinates drinking, driving about to kill time, drugging, and other sorts of slacking by; however, whacking wood at work is a termination grade offense even if done while not on the time clock.
As for the City of Quincy, however, the Quarry is well-aware of all manner of disconcerting stories of problematic behavior by city employees.
For but one example from among many, how a certain now-late family member of the mayor is said to have operated a cash and carry operation vending composted yard waste out of the back of the Department of Public Works corporation yard located near the Quincy Police headquarters on Sea Street.
Additionally, the Quarry is aware of confirmed word from one of its media brethren about its videoing this same person doing something comparably improper some years ago.
Unfortunately, the necessary money shot was not possible.
Reasons include that the use of a long-range telephoto lens was not possible given foliage and otherwise blocked lines of sight as well as that drone video recon technology was not then as well as developed, affordable, and stealthy as it is today.
Imagine if one or more of our corruptible city employees got hurt while cutting or chopping firewood for team Koch. Unbelievable!
Wow, it sounds like illegal logging is taking place at the Department of Natural Resources! Only in Quincy!
Illegal logging or theft of time?
How much productivity did the city lose at the taxpayer’s expense?
Time theft is a serious, expensive, and criminal.
Who can we call for a fair and impartial investigation when many in city hall and the police department are related to each other. Nepotism shines in Quincy!
Quincy should look into the parking ticket problem. They’re tagging vehicles that aren’t even parked on the road
We use a wood-burning stove to help offset our home heating costs. We paid almost $300 for a cord of wood delivered to the neck in the fall. I looked online to see if the city offered wood to residents. I could not find any announcements from the Department of Natural Resources citing free or for sale firewood, so why are city employees chopping and storing wood? Who are the beneficiaries of this wood?
Ironically, this is the only wood that many of the guys at DNR can get.
Can citizens now get firewood from the city?
