Santa Claus flies to rather than parachutes onto Pageant Field this year.
After decades of parachuting onto Pageant Field the day before Quincy’s annual Christmas Parade, this year Santa opted to instead to arrive via a helicopter in his first visit to Pageant in two years given a COVID-19 pandemic hiatus last year.
As for the change in flight arrangements, one can further only reasonably assume that the liability insurance carrier underwriting the risk for this event explained to the City of Quincy that it would not be covering parachuting this year nor ever again.
After all, Santa broke his leg in 2016, then the parachute drop was delayed for a week in 2017 given excess wind speed, and the drop was outright canceled in 2019 given unrelenting high winds.

So far, however, no word if Rudolph and the rest of the reindeer team will be filing a grievance with the National Labor Relations Board over Santa’s change in his airborne carrier.
Nice to see Santa hasn’t been hit financially by COVID. I wonder how much of a stimulus check or a PP loan he got.
