“‘Quincy Public Schools Superintendent Kevin W. Mulvey said the student told school officials they were (sic) carrying the weapon “because of safety concerns outside of school.'”

Quincy high school student arrested after carrying a handgun into a high school building and then attempting to flee on an MBTA train.
This troubling incident occurred on Monday at the GOALS program for variously problematic local students and which is located on the North Quincy High School campus.
This is not the first time that there has been an incident involving a gun at or at least near North Quincy High School.
In fact, there have been at least two such incidents, one in 2010 and a second in 2014.
Trifecta notwithstanding, downplaying soon followed that things could have been worse.
That and the only to be expected spin.
So far, however, there does not appear to have been any official comment about this latest firearm incident at least near North Quincy High School from Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch and who as mayor is also the Chair of the School Committee as well as is a North Quincy High School graduate.
In any event, the gun-toting eighteen-year-old was arraigned in Quincy District Court on Tuesday and ordered to be held without the possibility of bail at this time.
Things could have been worse.
No question.
However, that sounds similar to the oft-repeated and barely veiled threat Koch invokes whenever he’s confronted by the fact that property taxes are through the roof. He invariably tells us that we should be grateful because he isn’t taxing to the legal limit that he could.
What a saint.
Dom,
It is even worse than you think.
Given a perfect storm of events as regards how Prop 2 1/2 has played out locally over time, Quincy homeowners are paying higher than average tax bills at the same assessed values elsewhere as well as where local property tax bills are at or at very least close to their respective local Prop 2 1/2 limits.
Even worse, the local perfect storm of events makes it possible for Mayor Koch to tax homeowners even more before hitting the local Prop 2 1/2 limit. A lot more as a matter of fact as in close to 15% higher.
